The Minnesota Psychiatric Society invites members, residents, and fellows to take part in two advocacy days at the Capitol during the 2026 legislative session, with support and training to help you feel prepared.

Participants meet in small, pre-scheduled groups with legislators or their staff to share clinical perspectives and discuss key mental health and health care issues. You do not need to be a policy expert - your real-world experience matters.

MPS will participate in Physicians Day at the Capitol on March 4 with the Minnesota Medical Association and Mental Health Day on the Hill on March 26 with NAMI Minnesota, working closely with Momentum Advocacy and partner organizations to coordinate meetings, talking points, and logistics.

If you plan to attend Physicians Day at the Capitol (March 4), please complete the interest form through the Minnesota Medical Association. MMA uses this information to coordinate schedules, assign legislative meetings, and share logistics in advance. REGISTER HERE

If you plan to attend Mental Health Day on the Hill (March 26), please complete the interest form through NAMI Minnesota. This allows NAMI-MN and partner organizations to organize meetings, prepare materials, and communicate details leading up to the event. REGISTER HERE

Preparing for Advocacy at the Capitol

To help members feel confident going into these advocacy days, MPS is offering both in-person and virtual advocacy trainings. These sessions will cover current legislative priorities, review talking points, and offer practical guidance on communicating with legislators, including what meetings typically look like and how to share your perspective effectively.

These opportunities are open to MPS members as well as psychiatry residents and fellows. Whether you attend one event or take part throughout the session, MPS aims to make advocacy accessible, practical, and meaningful.
