​FastTrackerMN: Connecting Minnesota to Behavioral Health Care

FastTrackerMN began as an initiative of the Minnesota Mental Health Community Foundation with a straightforward goal: make it easier for Minnesotans to find the mental health and substance use disorder services they need.

Today, FastTrackerMN has become part of the fabric of Minnesota’s behavioral health community.

Each week, approximately 1,300 to 2,000 people visit FastTrackerMN.org searching for care and resources. More than 500 behavioral health provider organizations representing over 1,000 locations across Minnesota participate in FastTrackerMN, helping keep information about their services, programs, and availability current.

FastTrackerMN is used by individuals and families looking for help, care coordinators connecting people to services, health care professionals making referrals, counties and health plans navigating systems of care, and behavioral health providers helping patients find the next right service.

When Someone Is Ready for Help, Where Do They Start?

Finding behavioral health care can mean hours of searching websites, making phone calls, checking insurance, leaving messages, and discovering that a provider isn't accepting new patients or doesn't offer the service you need.

FastTrackerMN was built to be a first stop when someone reaches that critical moment and asks, “Where do I go?”

One Minnesota parent turned to FastTrackerMN when her 19-year-old son was experiencing a serious depression and she needed to find help quickly. Even with professional knowledge of Minnesota's mental health system, navigating care for her own child was overwhelming. FastTrackerMN helped her narrow the search to care he could actually access and connect him with a therapist within days. Today, he is doing well.

That same challenge plays out every day for professionals helping Minnesotans find care. Care coordinators and other referral professionals use FastTrackerMN to narrow their search based on factors such as insurance, whether a provider is accepting new clients, specialty, age served, language, location, and telehealth options, rather than spending valuable time searching individual websites and calling providers one by one.

In one comparison, finding an appropriate substance use treatment placement took one minute using FastTrackerMN versus 39 minutes using traditional search methods. Time saved searching for care is time professionals can spend with patients and clients, coordinating care, responding to crises, and supporting families.

FastTrackerMN helps individuals, families, and the professionals supporting them connect with care before they give up searching.

Built With Minnesota's Behavioral Health Community

One of FastTrackerMN’s greatest strengths is the community behind it.

FastTrackerMN isn't simply a directory of information collected from the internet. Minnesota behavioral health providers are active participants in the network, maintaining information about their own programs and services.

Over more than a decade, FastTrackerMN has built relationships with behavioral health providers and community partners across Minnesota. That provider participation is what makes FastTrackerMN more than a list of names and phone numbers. It is a statewide network connecting people who need care with the organizations providing it.

Making FastTrackerMN Easier to Use and Share

FastTrackerMN is designed to make finding care more accessible for Minnesota's diverse communities. The website includes how-to videos in Hmong, Somali, and Spanish to help people navigate FastTrackerMN and search for behavioral health services.

We also provide printed FastTrackerMN brochures at no cost upon request for clinics, hospitals, community organizations, care coordinators, and others who want to share the resource. Brochures can be used in waiting rooms, at resource tables and community events, or given directly to patients and families.

From an MHCF Initiative to an Independent Nonprofit

What MHCF helped launch has grown into a statewide resource used thousands of times each month to connect Minnesotans with behavioral health care.

In 2025, FastTrackerMN became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, creating a permanent home for the resource and allowing it to continue growing and serving Minnesota as its own organization.

The Minnesota Mental Health Community Foundation and Minnesota Psychiatric Society are proud of their role in creating and supporting a resource that has become an important part of Minnesota's behavioral health system.

FastTrackerMN is no longer supported by funding from the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Today, we are seeking sponsors, organizational partners, and individual donors to help ensure this statewide resource remains available to the Minnesotans and professionals who rely on it.

Support for FastTrackerMN helps us maintain the platform, work directly with behavioral health providers to keep information current, reach communities throughout Minnesota, and continue providing the resource to the public.
