Constitutional Committees

Constitution and Bylaws
Charge: Review, and oversee any necessary MPS organizational documents updates to assure conformity to national documents
and to reflect current needs and structure of the MPS.

Ethics Committee
Charge: the district branch arm of the APA’s Ethics Committee. Reviews cases involving MPS members.
Responsible for educating the membership regarding ethical practice.

Nominating Committee
Chair, Mark Frye, MD
Charge: identifies officer candidates for review and approval by Council and election by membership.

Membership/Fellowship Committee

Charge: leads efforts to recruit, maintain and serve membership. Provides oversight and support for DF process and outreach to member interest groups.


Program Committee
Chair, Sheila Specker, MD, DFAPA
Charge: identify educational needs, plan and produce programming to serve the needs of the membership and sustain the organization.

Standing Committees

Legislative Committee
Chair, Michael Trangle, MD, DLFAPA 
Charge: With the MPS lobbyist, keeps up-to-date on legislative issues, educates membership and represents the legislative, regulatory and advocacy needs of Minnesota psychiatrists, their practices, and their patients.

Women Psychiatrists Committee
Chairs: Laura Sloan, MD; Andrea Lundberg, MD; Karen Dickson, MD, DLFAPA 
Charge: Supports women psychiatrists in Minnesota. 

Senior Psychiatrists
Chair, Carrie Borchardt, MD 
Charge: Support connections and community among senior psychiatrists and their spouses/partners/significant others through social and educational programming.

Early Career Psychiatrists
Chair, Laura Sloan, MD 
Charge: To represent the needs of early career psychiatrists.

Awards/Research Committee
Chair, John Vuchetich, MD, DFAPA
Charge: To work with Minnesota medical schools to identify, and honor outstanding medical students and to solicit nominations from the MPS members for MPS annual awards including the Paul Wellstone Advocacy Award, and Distinguished Service Awards.

Communications Committee
Chair, Chinmoy Gulrajani, MD, DFAPA
Charge: To advance MPS messaging to serve and inform members and the public about psychiatry via social media and other avenues.

Newsletter Committee
Co-editors: Matt Kruse, MD; George Dawson, MD, DLFAPA 

Charge: To publish Ideas of Reference, the MPS bi-monthly newsletter. Contributing writers needed.
